Brandi and I are lame.

And we took a trip to Lametown.

Don't get me wrong, Savannah is amazing.  But apparently, Savannah on a fall Thursday night is not quite the same as a college town on a Thursday night.  These people haven't heard that "Thursday is the new Friday" yet.

We got here around three, had a big lunch at Mellow Mushroom, then drove around until check-in time.  Since we ate so late, we decided to wait until about eight-thirty to go to dinner, thinking that we could skip any dinner rush and stick around for a drink.  So we made up our minds to go to this barbecue place that looked good. We head down to the front desk to find out some places to get drinks and were told by the wonderful front desk lady that our barbecue place closed at six (not ten as advertised).  She gave us another suggestion for dinner and lots of suggestions for drinks.  The dinner place looked like Sketchville, so we decided to just drive around and find somewhere else.

Savannah can be confusing in the dark.  We drove around a while, then decided to try River Street; so we got in the left turn lane, turned, and...there was another car right there facing us.  Like on our side of the street.  So we freaked out and Brandi backed up, only for us to find ourselves in the middle of the wrong side of the street.  She did some quick thinking and drove down the trolley tracks to the right side.  We turned around...we looked and looked for how to get to River Street...we finally found the way to go...we almost ran into a trolley that was going the wrong way down a one-way street...we searched for parking and finally found a tiny space, the last one in the lot...we went up and down and up and down River Street looking for places to eat...and we didn't find anything.

Seriously.  People clearly don't know that you're supposed to serve dinner until eleven and drinks until two.  We checked out multiple places only to conclude that they were either too empty, too sketchy, too exciting, or too...not open.  We definitely even walked by one place that had live music and lots of people.  We decided that it seemed like the party had already started, so we decided not to go because we didn't want to be party crashers.  At a restaurant/bar.

Brandi said we don't have boyfriends because we like to go on adventures but we don't like to be adventurous when we're there.  We like to just stick our toes in the water and test it out, then be lamefaces and not do anything exciting.  Then we decided that it's really because we're intimidating and weird.

Anyway, we ended up not even getting dinner.  No place looked good and no food sounded good.  We went back to the hotel empty-stomached and turned on Private Practice and got ready for bed.

Maybe that's better after all.  We'll be hungry for an awesome bakery breakfast and well rested for a day chocked full of history and seafood and snacks.  :)

You should have come to Charleston and here's why:

1. Your favorites live here.
2. These restaurants are open until forever.
3. This place is crawling with boys. College of Charleston, Citadel, Navy. And always out on Thursdays.

Your loss.
