I got home from work not quite an hour and a half ago. For those of you who aren't awesome math wizards (yes--pretty sure that's where whiz came from, if you're using it in this context), that means I got home at 8. Which also means that I was at school for twelve straight hours today. What the heck.
I was there so long by choice and necessity, though, so I can't complain too much. I wanted to make sure I had my grades in order for Monday, the day when we have to have things finalized for the year. I put in a bunch of grades and cleaned up a bit (my room was in dire need of a good straightening), got lots of other papers sorted (I assign a moderate amount of work and grade a little less than I assign), and grabbed two sets of things to grade over the weekend. Now, if you know me at all, you know that I will probably not get to those before Monday afternoon. I still have high hopes that I will surprise us all and actually do some work over the weekend.
As you may remember, we've been doing remediation and babysitting this week. Today was the final day of having the kids nonstop. This lent a smidge of promise and optimism to the experience, as did an unexpected viewing of "The Rookie" starring Dennis Quaid during one of our breakout sessions. Heaven knows I love me a baseball movie. I also got to wear a fun skirt, so that was good.
I must admit that I'm still exhausted. I went through the Cookout drive-thru that's by my apartment and grabbed dinner even though I have three different types of leftovers in my fridge. I simply didn't even feel like heating anything up. Plus, I've had a craving for barbecue for so long that couldn't wait even another day (I'm going to a pig pickin' tomorrow!!!) . All I've done since getting back to this lovely abode is eat my dinner, water one plant because it looked SUPER sad, and flip back and forth between the Cubs game and the Blackhawks' game 4.
Now, if I had to choose a way to spend an evening, this would pretty much be tops (minus working late). The only thing I'd change is being able to swap between college/Panthers football and a Cubs game. Which almost never happens, unless the Cubs go well into the postseason. I thought 2008 was the year, just for superstition's sake. Oh well. Maybe it'll be 2019.
My gardenia finally has a bloom. I'm sitting outside with my television turned so I can still follow the games, and my gardenia is right next to me. I can smell it. :) I would eat it, too, if it tasted like it smelled. I'll just have to stick to munching my overgrown basil.

I cannot believe that you stayed at work so late!!! I hope you got lots of graes done. When are they to be complete, Monday or Tuesday?
And by the way, Cookout BBQ is not real BBQ!!!! You need to go to Cape Fear Chicken and BBQ on Grove Street!!!
Have fun at the pig pickin!
They're supposed to be done by midnight Monday. I'll be staying late Monday again, I'm sure, just making sure everything's set.
I suppose I need to go to CFCNB to get some "real" bbq even though I love Cookout's version. Maybe I'll suggest it next time I go on a date.
