I found the book notes!!!
Alright, I actually found them on Wednesday, but the previous entry wasn't posted, so I couldn't tell you anything about it. I was bound by the progression of time and our minds' dependence on its logical constructs. This post is already going downhill, and I'm only on the fourth sentence. Uh-oh.
I found the book notes. I was dreading going through the papers in my apartment (thank GOODNESS I didn't end up having to do that!) when I remembered that I folded the papers up so they'd be more suitable for transport. Right when I realized that, I noticed a few folded papers sticking out of a book I'd started reading but never finished. I pulled the papers out and voila! the notes really weren't quite as perfect as I thought. Whoops.
I spent most of yesterday afternoon developing the characters, setting and a few scenes in my head and taking notes on the ideas. I have a name of the main character's town of residence, both new and old. I know what her apartment looks like and the inside and outside appearances of her house. I asked a few people permission to use names and phrases they've told me, and as such I now not only know the love interest's name, occupation, family history and reputation, but I also know his exact eye color and the perfect way to describe what a look from him feels like. I know the occupations and personalities of the mother, father, sister, brother-in-law, townspeople, best friend, coworkers...you get the idea?
Today I spent a little time writing. I don't recall if I mentioned earlier that I had already begun chapter one, maybe three paperback pages' worth of writing. I now have about four single-spaced pages complete, or maybe eight to ten paperback pages. It doesn't seem like much in the grand scheme of things (hello, we're talking a BOOK here), but I'll admit that I'm struggling through this first part. I'm not as familiar with the introductory events as I am with the events in the middle and end of the story. Some of those are already just about finished within my notes, with movie-like scenes in my head to provide details. Others will be easily filled in as I keep writing.
We'll see how it goes. Honestly, I feel a little silly attempting to write a book. I'm young, I've never even written more than maybe five short (short short) stories, and many of the things I'm writing about I haven't even had life enough to experience firsthand. You know, though, what's the harm? If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. I will have spent time doing something I enjoy and honing my writing skills at the same time. If it does work out, well...Brandi and I are sharing the cash. So don't come begging, because I already won't be getting a full cut. Back off. I'm trying to not have to teach ever again.
So there you have it, folks. I'm writing a book with Brandi as my idea bolsterer and content advisor and editor. And we're not going to tell you what it's about past what I've already given up.
Sorry, you'll just have to make a trip to Barnes & Noble in a few years....
